Part 48 of Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations requires that mine operators and/or independent contractors provide no less than 8 hours of training to new miners before they enter a mine site.

Federal law requires that all miners receive basic and annual refresher training, and that all mine operators maintain an effective training plan. MSHA provides materials, guidance, and hands-on assistance to help miners and operators meet their training obligations in both English and Spanish.
